Before you list your home on the market, you should start packing! Yes, Before!! There are several reasons why you should start packing before you open your home for buyers to take a look.

1. Depersonalize Your Space – When a buyer enters your home, you want them to imagine it as their own. By thinking ahead and removing your family photos and unique collections, the home will feel more like a clean slate to the buyers. Your photos and collectibles hold sentimental value to you and should be packed well and preserved for your new home.

2. Declutter Your Space – In order to create a home that can be viewed by a buyer as their own, you should declutter. Pack away kitchen items that you do not use on a regular basis like fine china, silverware, small appliances, etc. This will allow you more kitchen cabinet space to clear the counter space. Pack away clothes for the opposite season so that your closets look cleaner and more organized. Think about the walls. If there is little open space on them, pack away some pictures or wall hangings. At our house, the garage is where we stick things we don’t have room for in the house. Your garage should look neat and roomy for your potential buyers.

3. Get Serious About Your Decision to Sell – Once you have made the decision to sell, put some money and effort into that decision. You need to know how to start packing.
